Taking Five at The Promenade with… Emma from Emma Louise Flowers

Emma, you relocated in January this year to a new shopfront within the Promenade. How’s the change been for business? Great, it’s much busier for my business. Being near the restaurants and having the foot traffic is wonderful. People can find me a lot more easily now.

How does the cooler weather affect the business? Cool weather is good for flowers in that they last longer. Different seasons bring different flowers. At the moment we have more natives and customers opt for richer, darker colours such as purples and burgundies.

What do you like about being based here? I love the community here. We’re all like-minded small businesses and everyone seems to look out for each other. It’s a really nice place to come to work every day, near the creek.

Tell us about your online business verse storefront? My online accounts for about 70% of my business and people tend to go online more in the cooler months. Obviously Spring and Summer tend to be the busiest period for florists. People often assume there are less flowers available over winter but it’s not really about more or less but simply there being different flowers to choose from across the seasons.

How do you spend time away from work? I live in Emerald Beach and enjoy time at the beach or taking the dog for a walk there.

Thanks Emma Louise
