Plans for a major transformation of The Promenade on Coffs Creek have been given the green light, with a redevelopment valued at more than $25 million approved in October 2022. The existing site, which has stood for over two decades and currently features a mix of local businesses combining lifestyle, dining, and professional services along the creek, will make way for a modern mixed-use precinct.
The proposal includes new retail, commercial and community spaces at street level, topped by 39 residential apartments, three of which will be penthouses. Basement parking will also be incorporated into the design.
Property developer and businessman, Tony Feitelson, who has lived in the region for more than 18 years and has a background in architecture, said the project had been a long time coming, with approval taking around 18 months. He emphasised that he preferred to collaborate with both council and the community throughout the process. While acknowledging that market conditions have shifted since the original concept was drawn up, and that the $25.4 million cost estimate is now outdated, he hopes the vision can still be delivered as approved. Feitelson added that the building height has been carefully considered to remain in line with the surrounding treetops, ensuring minimal visual impact. Ultimately, he said, the goal is to create a project that enhances the local area while also remaining financially feasible.
